Zig Zag, BABY & Giant Flowers: New Crochet Squares

I am happy to report, I have completed 43 squares from my Project 101. 58 to go!!

Here’s the latest. No color explosion this time. I am all over the color map. Trying to mix things up and use some of my yarn just sitting.

Square 89 – Zig Zag

This looked interesting so thought I would try it. Yuck!! The square is all single crochet. Took forever. And placing the zig zags to zig zag just so also took forever. Even with a guide from the book, I still ended up redoing the zags about as often as the zigs. ๐Ÿ˜€

Will I make this square again? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Square 19 – BABY

Have you tried the new BABY yarn line from Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice? Very pretty colors. This pink is called Pink Poodle.

Cute, petite. I would make it again.

In fact, I DID make it again. ๐Ÿ˜€

Square 69

Looking for a quick and easy square to make? This is it. Kinda plain. Kinda dull. But it’s in the book. So had to make it. I added an extra single crochet row around the edges.

Square 17 – Love it!!

Love this flower!! It came out perfect. Will definitely make this square and flower again. There are 3 layers of petals. And pattern uses Back Post Single Crochet stitches. They are easy. Just have to determine which stitch they go around.

Square 32 – Another Uh, Oh Moment

Switched to earthtone colors for this one. Used cream, toffee and espresso dark brown. Espresso almost looks black.

Starts off with this flower.

Round 8. Uh, Oh!! Not again!! I am making a square. Not a CIRCLE!!

Still smarting from the flying saucer, I was hesitant to go past Round 8. BUT.. I rechecked all the steps and was pretty certain I hadn’t missed, messed up or skipped anything. Kept going.

Whew!!

I added an extra round of double crochet stitches before the final single crochet row.

Squares are being made from patterns in the book, 101 Crochet Squares by Jean Leinhauser.

Yarn used for the above squares:

  • Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice
  • Loops & Threads, Impeccable
  • Red Heart Soft Yarn

Hook G for all.

Project 101: Picking Up Where I Left Off

Can you believe it’s been 6 months? Time flies when having fun.

OK, time to get back to working on this project. Called Project 101 since there are 101 crochet squares in my book. The name of the book is 101 Crochet Squares by Jean Leinhauser.

Here’s Square 1. A giant pansy in the center of the square.

I didn’t think I would like the pansy. It looked odd. But I just wanted to get a square done and crossed off my list. I love it!! It came out so pretty.

Of course, I did a bit of changing. Altered the pattern. The center (gold color) was so deep you couldn’t see it. So I made a separate circle of single crochet, sewed it on top and added a picot stitch around it. I used light blue yarn for the flower, trimmed in navy. The square is white, trimmed in navy. Square measures 8 3/4″ by 8 3/4″.

Yarn used:

  • White-Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice, acrylic
  • Light blue-Red Heart, acrylic
  • Navy-Red Heart, acrylic
  • Mustard-Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice, acrylic

Hook H

Now I have to decide which square to make next.

My 1st Crochet Pet Garment

A dog sweater!! Oh my… And I don’t even have a dog. In fact, our household is petless. I made this for a friend’s goat. Don’t laugh. They need to stay warm too.

It’s for this one. The one without a sweater. Can’t let him be known by the other “kids” as the one with no fashion sense. ๐Ÿ™‚

Since I don’t have a doggy model, I bought this stuffed animal yesterday at Kroger. Droopy. Look at those eyes.

He will be busy as I plan to crochet several more of these sweaters. Hopefully I can find some different patterns on the net. Slim pickings. I searched. I may have to design my own pattern.

This is the pattern I used.

Sweater is created in 2 parts. A long piece that starts with the neck. Then a triangle under body piece to sew in. I used Red Heart acrylic yarn in a mix of black, gray and white. Hook H.

Anyway… here are more pictures of Droopy in my very FIRST CROCHET PET SWEATER.

If you know of any cool pet sweater patterns out there, let me know. Crocheted ones. I already looked at the ones at Crochet Central. Thanks much!!
