Doll Quilt Props. Cuteness Overload!!

On Wednesday, a week ago, I stopped off at the local Salvation Army to drop off two boxes of donations.

One box was full of office supplies. I had a talk with my former 9 to 5 self. We both agreed there were things hanging around I would NEVER need or use. So, I went about the house collecting up J O B related stuff. Such as navy blue Follow Up cards. Nice, expensive looking, but where would I use those now. I don’t suppose my customers want to get a follow up message when they buy something from me. LOL!! Hilarious!!

And three-ring binder sized plastic holders for business cards. I kept a couple. Plus old stuff for the Franklin Planner I used to use. No need to plan my day. I can do what I want, when I want. Plus extra this, extra that. Do I really need 300 rubber bands. Not hardly. I use about one a month. I think you get the picture. Loads of stuff this crafter won’t be needing in the craft room.

The 2nd box was full of unwanted/already replaced VHS movies and empty clear plastic VHS cases. I have tried for years to figure out how to recycle the cases but so far nothing has worked out. So out they went too.

And you know what that donation meant. I COULD GO SHOPPING. One Out. One In. I can’t buy unless I first discard.

I drove around to the Thrift Shop entrance anxious to see what was new. Senior Day. 25% off.

Made my rounds to the usual racks and shelves. Got some cute red material with Chef’s and veggies. A bargain. Actually a steal!! With my senior discount it was only $5. Four yards/60″ wide.

Next I checked out the latest in the wood aisle. You can NOT just breeze by that section. So much to consider. I stop, look and touch. Oh, no. Don’t Touch!! You know when you touch something, you will probably buy it.

These got lots of touches. AND ENDED UP IN MY CAR!! 😀

And the best part. $3 for the chair and one dollar for the cute little doll cradle.

Now I am all set with doll props for my next craft show.

Only $10, OMG!!

Can you say Oh My Gosh with me?

This was only $10 at one of the craft stores I frequent. I guess the person who made them wanted to get rid of them. This was the last one. It is well made.

I was thinking about painting it. Was. But with all the colorful fabrics I use, I don’t want to box myself in or limit what I can do with it. Maybe paint it white. But probably I will leave it as is.

I love it!! And now I have to make larger doll pillows. The little Ball and Chain ones are way too small for it.

And as usual I made my weekly Wednesday stop at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop yesterday. Senior Day. 25% off. I circled the place. I am getting faster with my browsing. I know what is new, what was there the last time. I headed to the mug section. Found two I liked. Headed to the doll section. Found lots I liked. But only bought three and a stuffed monkey. How cute are these!! All between 1.99 and 3.99.

No way could I just walk away from them. They needed a home. But don’t tell them they won’t be played with and will just be props for my photo taking sessions. 😀

Ticker Tape Doll Quilt Set

Every few days I go on a Lookie-Lou Hunt. Looking for interesting posts and blogs on the ‘net. Sometimes it is just the photo that interest me. Click. Click. Click.

But what I mostly love to do is spend an hour or so browsing the archives of my favorite sites. Usually I will find Eye Candy to add to my ever growing To-Make-List.

This is one of my finds.

A Little Ticker Tape Doll Quilt by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts.

So… it got moved right up to the TOP of my list. I had planned to make a doll quilt anyway since I had already purchased this doll bed/cradle on eBay a couple of months ago.

I just hadn’t planned on making one so soon. But seeing those ragged edges was just too hard to resist.

I followed along with Amanda Jean’s instructions. Even placing them similar to the way she did it. Some horizontal. Some vertical. Mine is a bit smaller than hers but I think it fits my little doll bed perfectly.

And it is reversible. Two for One.

It is quilted. Each fabric piece has been stitched on all four sides. Backstitched at the beginning and end. It will fray some but I am hoping after a washing or two, the ends will stabilize. It is all cotton and the batting is cotton.

After finishing it and LOVING it, my brain went bonkers. Idea Overload!! Can’t just have a quilt, now can you!! You need a matching pillowcase. So I made a new mattress with a separate pillow.

Then off I went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store and found this ugly cute Cabbage Patch Doll for $3.99. It must have been really loved. She has lipstick marks on both cheeks. 😀

And one last item. Something to carry it all in.

I created this bag by accident. I was trying to make a fitted sheet. When that turned out… crappy not quite right, I turned it into a bag. I am thinking U-HALL is a great name for it since the design looks like a giant “U”. And you haul stuff in it. (The UHAUL name is already taken by those truck rental people. So can’t use that.) How about Stars and Stripes? That name came to me as I was looking at the buttons and the striped fabric. But since I plan to make it with other fabrics, I’ll stick with U-HALL.

If you make this little quilt, I would love to see it. E-mail it to me and I will post it on my blog. Try it. You will make more than one. (I did!!)

Here’s another Ticker Tape quilt Amanda Jean made. This one measures 35″ by 46″. Go visit her site. I guarantee you will linger and be there a while. She does beautiful work.
