Ragged Edges Quilt and New Back Idea

Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

As I was making the charity blocks for Margaret’s Hope Chest, I decided I wanted my own Ragged Edges Quilt. So I made duplicates in most cases where I had enough fabric.

I have to tell you, this project was a Labor of Love. One thing kept me going. I could see the potential for something pretty to blossom. An explosion of color. I used every fabric source in my craft room. Stash. Charm squares. Scraps. I searched high and low looking for anything I could use to make monochromatic blocks. It took me four (I repeat… FOUR!!) days to sort through everything and get the blocks sewn. I touched every scrap in my Scrap Bin and pulled out those that were at least 3 1/2″ square.

Though it seemed to take forever… I enjoyed getting reacquainted with all the different scrap pieces and colors. I even took the time to put them in color order.

Just about every color is represented in my Ragged Edges quilt. It’s All In There.

Purple (lots of purple), pink, red, orange, blue, navy, wine, green, yellow, peach and aqua. I wasn’t so sure about mixing the darker colors with the bright rainbow colors but I think it works out OK. I am even thinking of using wine for the binding. To bring it all together.

Counting the charity blocks and those for me, I made a total of 75 blocks. I am using 56 for my quilt. They are up on my design wall. Next I have to sew them in columns and then rows. I will let them stay up there for a day or two. So I can look at them. 😀

The blocks I made for Margaret’s Hope Chest were mailed a few days ago.

And I just found out the deadline was extended until August 20th. So there is still time if you want to make some blocks. Go here for the details.

Update on my Umbrella Quilt Top

The dust has settled. And a new idea for the back to my umbrella quilt has emerged. While still waiting for a 50% off coupon from JoAnn’s so I buy more purple fabric, I got to thinking. Maybe, just maybe, these might work.

White and lavender polka dots with the little bit of purple I have left. I think I can stretch the purple.

Hope my “new” idea works. More details and photos to come.

OK, taking a break now.

What have you been doing? Do tell.

FNSI: My New Clutch… Cats, The Musical

Handmade by Heidi

I joined in with the fun at Friday Night Sew In over at Handmade by Heidi. They always have something fun going on. Great projects. Great prizes. My pillowcase project was inspired by one of the FNSI projects.

For today’s sew in, I completed one project.

My new fun handbag. A clutch. I am calling it Cats, The Musical.

I had pieced together the front from scraps.

I blogged about it months ago but it sat and sat and sat. Finally a couple days ago, I decided to work on it. I finished it today.

No zipper for this one. Just snaps. One snap on the inside and one on the outside flap. I am working on a second little clutch like this but it will be slightly different.

I worked a bit on this.

The plan was to make one long table runner and cut up the rest into smaller placemats. But now I have decided to make a picnic blanket. I have lots of blue denim so I am going to try that. Will be nice and sturdy on the back and should be able to hold up in the grass and dirt. But first I have to decide whether I want a blue denim sashing going down the center. I will work on it tomorrow.

Also these are in the works…

One is quilted and ready to become a zippered pouch. And one (orange/turquoise) has been pieced (all from scraps) and ready to be quilted. Not sure what I will make. Probably a large handbag. I was auditioning white fabric with it today. Yuck!! I just don’t “do” white fabric well. I will have to see what else I can use for borders. The photo in the back is a little clutch I am working on. Doing a tutorial for it.

Well, that does it for what I worked on today for Friday Night Sew In.

But before I go, I want to show you what came in today’s mail. I won this HUGE box of selvage scraps on eBay. 2500 strips. 6″ by 2″. Wow!!

Most with the selvage manufacturer’s markings. Many designer fabrics. I so wanted to dig through the box and play with the strips. But I resisted. I wanted to continue working on my UFO’s and not be tempted. I’ll go through the box in a few days. For sure I will blog about them. Aren’t you seeing lots of projects!!

This came today too. Lucy’s Crab Shack charm pack.

After flipping through the squares, I had to quickly put them away. I so wanted to pull out a few and get started. But again I resisted. Another day. A whole day of looking and thinking. Just me and Lucy!! Can’t wait.

Hope you are having a great weekend doing something you love. 😀
