I Love, LOVE Making Handbags

I really do. I guess I just love to craft and make stuff.

This is my latest creation. A quilted handbag. With a coordinated little zippered clutch. I have been working on and off on this set for a couple weeks.

I showed you my fabric pull three weeks ago. Remember? I used all of these except the scripted fabric on the left and the avocado polka dots.

From That to This…

The handbag is quilted, lined, has one small inside pocket, has a swivel hook on the inside to hang keys from. Handles are dark brown wood. With magnetic closure. You can see the hardware and buttons I used here in this photo.

Zippered bag was made from the same fabric pull plus leftover strips from the handbag. I am so drawn to these little bags. I plan to make lots more.

It came from MiMi’s Etsy shop. She has them in lots of colors.

I didn’t have a pattern for either. Just worked from the vision in my head. Colors are green, rust and peach.

I love it. You didn’t have a pattern? I wish I was that talented. I make lots of bags but always have a pattern. I am not crafty enough to do it without one.

You always have creative ideas. I have followed your site for quite some time and look at every post. You have started up the creativity in me and I thank you. So Lord willing, I look forward to seeing your future thousands-of-items.

I love what goes on in your head! Red and green are my two fav colors together. The handbag is great, but when I learned that you made it up in your head, well, where do I sign up to follow you? I want to be there for your next brain storm!

Wow!! All the comments!! Thank you so much!!

Lennette, did you see the green fabric you gave me? Love it. Just about used it all up.

Gaby, I thought about doing a tutorial but it would have taken longer to get the post up. I did take photos of each step. Maybe I will do one later. Thanks for asking.

    • gabrielaquintana says:

ok, take the time you need. I will be waiting with the needles and scissors in hand! haha 🙂

Donna, I kind of did a double take when you said your age- I know you’re retired but I’ve always thought of you as being in your early to mid-50’s! LOL You’re gonna be in your 50’s in my mind forever. 🙂

I told myself no more fabric this year. I would not buy any no matter what. Then I got my approval for the Pride festival and went out and ordered 5 yards of fabric to make 5 new purses for the festival. One of them I will be more than happy to keep if it doesn’t sell.

I love the green fabric across the top of the handbag!

    • don_mae says:

LOL!! Thanks, Debra. I will forever be 50 as long as the gov’t still sends me my SS check. 😀

Good luck selling your wares at the Pride Festival. I saw on your blog all the stuff you will be selling. You have been busy.

That green fabric came from Lennette. Don’t know if she was at the Crafter’s Cafe when you were. I think she joined after you left. She is a fabulous quilter.

      • Deb says:

LOL Thanks, though I will be so tired of rainbows by the end of this week!

Lennette sounds familiar, but nt sure. Its been so long since I was there!
