Getting Camera Ready Part 1

Wednesday, June 10

For the past week I have been looking for an inexpensive photography class to take. On-line and local.

One company offers free classes with the purchase of a new camera. I have a seven year old digital Olympus C-700 which still works great but I have been thinking the newer ones probably have better bells and whistles.

I feel guilty even thinking of buying a new camera since I never really made the one I have my own. I don’t know how to use 99% of the settings. It is probably best for me to learn what I have and THEN and only then should I upgrade if I find it can’t produce the type of pictures I am aiming for.

These sites and pages have been most helpful.

Some of what I have been reading is quite creative. Who knew how easy it is to set up your own home studio. I saw one set up on a card table using paint cans to prop up a single sheet of white poster paper. That was the backdrop. Poster paper was sloped, shaped like a rounded L, so background would be seamless. Genius!!

But if I decide to go a bit more professional and part with some of my hard earned cash, then I would probably start with these.

And LUCKY me!! I found an instruction book on-line for my Olympus camera. Problem is, I already have a manual. It is about an inch thick. So not sure what this 106 page book can provide that I don’t already have. Sure, it will probably be more user friendly and less techie. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll bite and send them the $24.95 they are asking.

So… the hunt continues. BBL with Part 2.
