I am so glad I signed up for this. My first crochet swap. A potholder swap. The rules were simple enough. Make five potholders of same design, same color or different colors, all to measure between 6-12 inches length or diameter.
For over a month I have been experimenting with patterns. Trying to stay within my limited comfort zone but also itching to go beyond. I have only been crocheting for less than six months.
If you remember, I made sunbonnet ones.

Then granny square ones.

The first seemed too fancy for kitchen duty and the next seemed too large, more like a huge trivet. I liked them both BUT…
I kept searching for something more practical. And found it. In my 101 Crochet Squares book. Surprisingly, it is Square 8. The one I had trouble with. After making so many of them, I bet I could crochet it now in my sleep.

I choose to go bold but also safe with my color selections.
- Sage green with fuchsia
- Purple with lavender
- Hot pink with rose pink
- Hot blue with cream
- Dark brown with peach
100% cotton used. Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream and Lion Brand cotton. Each measures approximately 7″.
The back is a solid color, the main color. They feel soft, thick and should be fine when lifting hot dishes from the oven.

I have a bit of work still to do. They need a hanging loop. I couldn’t decide whether to use the main color or contrasting color. Once I do that, in the next day or two, then they will be packaged and on their way to the organizers of the swap. They need to receive them by May 31.

I hope the five people who get mine will like them. Can’t wait to see what I get in exchange. I will post pictures.
I have learned a LOT during my potholder journey and feel I am leaps and bounds ahead of where I was crochet-wise a month ago.
(Click on the swap! gif up top and it will take you to the Swap Blog. You can see other potholders and read stories about them.)

I think any of the ones you have made would be good for the swap.
I almost changed my mind AGAIN to go with the sunbonnet ones. But went ahead with Square 8. The laminated tags came out nice. Photo on one side. Printed details on other. Going to mail box today.
