Taming the Edges With a DC Decrease

Trying to keep the row edges straight and even can be a challenge when crocheting. No matter how careful I stitch, the uneven sides just happens. After row after frustrating row, I figured out a way to keep the edges straight. At least, I have, when double crocheting.

When I get to the last DC in a row, I do the stitch as normal but hold off pulling through the last loop. Leave it on the hook.

Next, go UNDER the corner 3 chain loop (the one created at the turn to begin a new row), do the DC stitch as normal, but hold off pulling through the last loop.

Now pull through all loops on the hook.

This DC decrease helps keep the edges straight. Now do the “turn chains” and continue crocheting as normal.

Repeat at the next row turn. See how it looks. This looks SO much nicer.
