What fun!! Just returned from the all day event celebrating Southfield Michigan’s 50 year anniversary. No matter where you looked there was beauty everywhere. From the beautiful tulips to the beauty of Miss America 2008.
The weather was excellent, bringing out people of all ages. Even farm animals and pets.
There was a giant rock climbing wall and something similar to bungee jumping. Kids were strapped to a double sided pole with a trampoline at the bottom. They bounced up and down using the trampoline as a springboard.
Also various simulated games were available to entertain the kids. Bowling, NASCAR driving and golf. Plus car racing, a basketball game called hoops. I saw a juggler, clowns, face painting, hula hoops, bean bag tossing. Even ice skating, yep, ice skating. So much to do with kids and adults having lots of fun.
There were even activities that Senior Citizens (self included) could enjoy. Such as a hayride, hobnobbing with Southfield’s Mayor, Brenda Lawrence. And eating free cake. That was the largest cake I have ever seen.
After eating several hot dogs, chips, cake and smores, hubby and I were ready for a nap. We opted for sitting and listening to the band instead. The band played a mixture of popular tunes and jazz. Here’s a picture of the band area before the crowds arrived.
Miss America 2008, Kirsten Haglund, who BTW is from the area, was available for a photo op and autograph signing. Even the NAVY got in on the fun. Just in case you were so inclined to sign up.
So… we had fun, in wonderful weather. Now I am ready for my nap.
