2 hours!!?? No way.
It took me that long to get the buttons positioned in place so I could sew them on. Maybe the people who can sew this purse in two hours took the Evelyn Wood Speed Sewing Class. (Anyone remember her?)
I know my way around a pattern but it took me a lot longer than the two hours as stated on the packaging.
It took me four hours.
I had no problems understanding the pattern or the instructions. Cutting was easy. One pattern piece.
Cut four pieces of fabric. Two of the outside color and two of the inside color. So that part was a snap. Most of the slowness can be blamed on me. I am just a slow sewer. I sew a seam, iron it. Sew another seam, iron it. Hold the item up for inspection. Admire it. Sew another seam, iron it. LOL!!
Some of that four hours was spent reenforcing seams. I hate an unraveled look so I decided to zig-zag the edges and also double stitched the seams. And then came the placement of the buttons!! Pattern called for four buttons on the front and four on the back. I added one more, five front and back. They had to be JUST SO. I measured each button 2 1/2″ apart. I used my purple marker to make tiny dots on the top and underside of the yellow fabric to make sure the buttons would line up correctly.

I even sewed white buttons on the inside so you wouldn’t be able to see the thread.

Here are pictures of the side opening under the flap and the inside lining.

Anyhoo, I really like how this purse turned out and plan to make several more.
I have the cutest Halloween fabric which would make an adorable Trick-or-Treat bag. Can’t you just see some little girl skipping door-to-door holding out a cute little bag like this? Fill her up!!
If you are interested in making a purse like this you just need to cut four pieces of 16″ by 16″ fabric and follow the pictures. I bet some fat quarters would be the perfect size. Or you can purchase the pattern. It is Butterick B5055, Fashion Express, 2 Hour Pattern.
