My Library? Yep, MY Library. My city tax dollars helped pay for and build it.
The library is within walking distance from my home and is on the same campus as other city municipal buildings. Fire, police, courts, city services, parks and recreational buildings. It sits prominently on the front side of the complex.
However, it wasn’t always this way.
I can remember when the land the library now sits on was all grass. Nothing but grass. Green grass, manicured and prepped to host many crowd pleasing events such as, the annual summer Jazz Festival and 4th of July fireworks display. Blankets, lawn chairs, picnic baskets and coolers come to mind. And lots of fun!!
When I first learned of the proposal to build a new library at this site, I was skeptical. I had my doubts on such an ambitious project. How could something that large be built on such a small plot of land? And what about the special events? I wasn’t liking this at all.
Anyhow, the building started going up and construction proceeded as planned. I didn’t watch each and every nail pounded or each brick laid, so I don’t remember how long it took to build it. BUT IT SURE IS BEAUTIFUL!! A work of art.
Here are some pictures I scanned from the postcards I picked up today.

Yes, that is snow you are looking at. Here in Michigan, we are used to all the different weather changes. As the saying goes… wait five minutes.
